Do I Need a Visa for Norway?

In general, if you're a citizen of the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA), you do NOT need a visa to travel to Norway for tourism. 

Tourist visas are also NOT required for nationals of over 60 countries that have a visa waiver agreement with Norway.

Visit Norway Without a Visa

Here is a quick overview of the requirements for visitors who do not require a visa to visit Norway.

1. You can stay for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
2. Your passport must be valid for at least three months after you plan to leave Norway.
3. You may be required to prove that you have sufficient funds to cover your stay.
4. You cannot work in Norway during your visit. 
5. You must be able to return home or to your residence permit country after your stay.

Norway Visitor’s Visa

If you are not a citizen of one of the visa-free countries, you are required to obtain a tourist visa. Here are the general requirements you must have to apply for a Norway Schengen Visa.

1. Original passport with at least two blank pages that is valid for three months after the intended travel date.
2. One recent passport photo. 
3. Travel medical insurance that covers at least EUR 30,000 and is valid for the duration of the trip and the entire Schengen area.
4. Flight reservation for a round-trip or return ticket.
5. Proof of sufficient funds to cover your stay
6. Travel itinerary with proof of accommodations and flight reservations.

How to Apply for Norway Tourist Visa

You can apply for a visa to Norway at least 20 days before your trip, but no more than 6 months ahead of time. Norwegian tourist visa applications are typically processed in 15 days, but in some cases, it may take up to 45 days.

Tip: We recommend applying at least 4 weeks before your departure date.

Here is an overview of the process of applying for a Norwegian tourist visa. Note that some nationalities may require more than others. It is important to carefully read and follow the instructions provided by the Norwegian embassy or consulate in your country. 

1. Gather the necessary documents you need to hand in to start your visa application process.
2. Complete the application form from the UDI online application portal.
3. Pay the standard visa application fee, which is 80 euros.
4. Print out the confirmation letter of your visa application and submit your documents at the nearest Norwegian Consulate or Embassy.
5. You will likely be required to submit your fingerprints (biometric data) and may be asked to return on another date for an interview about your trip.
